BLUE

And there, by the winding road, it watched

and there, by the rushing waters, it took anchor

and there, neath commuting clouds, it found no freedom,

her song; locked to the land

waiting as the tides retreated

wailing as the breeze bolted

out onwards and over
always and forever
while there, by the winding road, by the edge of the baying blues

her song;
bound to the shore
unlike the tide
unlike the tempest
unlike the sands of time

blue said the sea
not I said the sky
nor I said the clouds
nor I said the sand
but I sang the song
there on the shore

her song forever tied
forever more…

ONLY A MOMENT

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 23.38.33

I see you
all around me

I see you
in the sky
above me

I see you
in the water
below me

and in the sea
I see the sky
and in its reflection
I see your connection

and I am nowhere
and we are nowhere in sight
between the sea and the sky

we are the blink of an eye
we are the blink already blunk

we are not the sea
we are not the sky

we can sail the sea
but can’t comprehend its depth

we can fly through the sky
but can’t comprehend its infinity

I see you all around me

and you are endless

and we are just fish
stuck in the stream
caught on your current

and we are just birds
blown on your breeze
for but a moment

we are but a moment
but when we smile
that moment is everything

like the river when it finds the sea
like the star when it lights the sky

BEACHES BROKEN

I’m chasing
beaches broken
slipping in between sands sinking
feet in search of footing firm
contemplating connections
between the sand and sea
as if to find reflections
between the land and me.

I’m chasing
beaches broken
slipping in between sands sinking
watching tides through time trickle
dividing and subtracting
what’s lost and left to see
as if they’re reenacting
what the years made of me.

I’m chasing
beaches broken
slipping in between sands sinking
currents coming to covet
corrections and corrosions
that trickle out to sea
along with the illusions
of who I thought I’d be.
I’m chasing
beaches broken
slipping in between sands

sinking

skipping over shallow streams

dissolving

while holding on to hope.

PAIRED IN PARADISE

Screen Shot 2016-05-15 at 17.27.02

We walk on soothing sands
in far flung foreign lands
that sweep seductions
over sky and sea, we see,
in loving hands, golden wedding
bands, no tighter knot any sailor
ever made, we walk on beaches
of borders blue, better blues
than any blue has ever been, a better bond
than any eyes have ever seen, eyes
that tickle with tears, eyes that see
a future beyond the years, we twist
and turn to songs serenading the sunset,
a sway of celebration, a joyous jubilation
to court the continuous currents
of the fortunate fate that found you,
a dutch delight and a perfect Per,
here and happy folding hands
around hearts while a certitude
sweeps the shore, connections created
in this paradise where gods have given glory,
where the universe maps out for you
a story, and when the sun sets your foot prints
will settle upon the sand where you once stood,
impressions tied by tides like the rings now worn;
bands to bind the bearers, you are now
like the sea and the shore;
bound to each other,                       always and forever more…

CONNECTIONS

Water
Silent
Stillness
Reflection . Connection
Make the connection
Elements
Water Earth Air
I can be fire
The fire

I walk on water
I dream I walk on water
I see stillness
I dream I walk on the stillness of the water
I hear the silence
I am the silence dreaming of the stillness that walks on the water
I am the reflection
I am the silent reflection of the dream that once walked on the stillness of the water.

SWALLOWED BY THE STILLNESS

Swallowed by the stillness,
all life now a reflection
of what was once movement,
of all that once beat against the current.

He walked along the wood,
slipped along the steps
and swam into the stillness
that settled on the silence
Of the morning not yet woken

and the trees beside the river
reached down into the water
as he slipped beneath reflections
letting go of all connections

out into the water
down below the surface

and all that he once was
became the light that broke the day
and all that he had feared
in the water washed away
and all he had seen
rose back up to the surface,
now a reflection on a surface
that looked into the sky
while the sky looked down from high
Into his reflection
in the water

and it watched as he dissolved
beneath the milky mists of morning
but in the wood he left his footprints,
on the steps he left his hold
and the water took his worries
and in its bed his feet found root
and in his flesh the fish found taste
as he let go of the morning,
as he let go of the waste.

Swallowed by the stillness,
all life now a reflection
of what was once movement,
of all that once was a beat against the current.

THE TRUTH IN THE WATER

refection

I see you, this morning
in sweeping reflections
in the waters, reflected
in the sleeping stillness
of the morning’s silence

as if the world was looking up
as if the sky had fallen down.

I see a tree, a weeping
sea of a tree, leaning,
reflected in the waters,
reflecting its reflection
into milky mists of morning

and I wonder if the world is truly what I see
or if my reflection is the truth
staring up
at me.

IN THE HEART

I can pack a million boxes
I can walk a million roads
Cross a million seas
But I cannot pack you
In a box,
Love is not for the keeping,
Love winds its way
Along roads unknown,
Untraveled, unexpected,
Love seeps like the sea
From every box
I place it in,
No storage can seal it
No road can hold it
No sea can bind it
To its bounty
As it swims from me
Like the current
Against the tides
Of want and need.

I can pack a million boxes
I can walk a million roads
Cross a million seas
But I cannot pack love
Like I cannot pack hope,

But I can hold them
Both
In my heart

AT THE RISING SUN; Tunisia, Remembering Brighter Days

Shandy shades of dust speckle the ground

And gallant tones of green

Dot the landscape

From which the scent of olives ooze,

Before mixing with the aromas of musk,

Distant Morocco

And the comical smell of buring tires.

At dusk,

I am driven by a blind taxi driver-

Judging by his driving-

Along a road

Which seemingly stretches through the sea

Whilst seagulls dive for food

Before the final setting of the sun.

That morning,

I had strolled along golden sands

And watched tides sweep over my feet,

I saw white robbed men

Close their eyes

And wrap themselves

In prayer and peace.

I saw the sun rise

And pour its rays

Over the tombs of those

Who had long since gained

Eternal rest.

A simple life witnessed,

With riches extending far beyond

The grasp of materialism…
