BORN IN BLUE

Muscle in movement to music
as cords are cut from corpse,
‘I was born in blue,’ he said,
‘tender twisting into tune,
I am rags rendered into rich,
suffering surrendering to the song.’
‘I was born in blue,’ he said
And his guitar the guts
through which he bled.

CAST ALONG

Lost in a current
capricious,
a cast of confusion,
but the river
remembers its route.
The water wades
into the ocean
& the drifting ends.

LONG DAYS

Beauty bays
in the back gardens
of concrete
we’ve created,
simplicity shouting
from the shadows
of cites under siege,
precious petals
pulsing with potential,
lines of light longing
add contrast to contour,
like age adds interest.

Long days, lonely,
waiting to be witnessed
by more than just
the falling rain…

We all are beauty,
bending to the light,
bursting to be seen.

RESTLESS

Only shadow remains
as I slip away from myself,
carving new forms
out of old bones,
eager for other arousals
to press through the restless.

RELEASED

As you
walked away
I watched you
curve through the current
of confusion that had
consumed us.

Once torn on the tide,
I waded out to let our worries
wash off on the waves
as a breeze buried its breath
against my body
like the kindness
that once caressed us
and all hurt once spoken
faded like the foam now dissolving

A KISS BEFORE THE FALL

I stood on plains,
broad & boisterous,
as our ancestors whispered
the wisdom fickle fellows
have since forgotten
and on my cheek,
as if the final fall
of grace from greed,
the kiss of zephyr
washed it’s hand
of what’s to come.

THE RETURN TO THE WATER

At 20 I was reckless,
I waded into waters
with careless concern
for direction.
At 40 I had grown
to understand grounding;
it was not the water
that rushed through me
but the bed my body
rested on. I stand again
over the waters,
rushing always onwards,
but have found my place
in a bed that reassures me
I am no longer a victim
to the whisper of regret.

THIS CAN BE PARADISE

All tides,
like time,
trickle away,
all thoughts
are tempered towards forgotten,
all hold;
to the harbour of has been.
All waters
wash through rivers
to find the ocean.

We are water
washing through paths,
plotting our way
towards that dream
of paradise.

Today we are hope floating,
tomorrow; no more
than faded memories.

Build paradise
along the path
and not just in the dream.

DAWN CHORUS

I wonder did
Brontosaurus
give as much thought
to the dawn chorus
as we do

or was he happy
merely surviving,
not constantly deriving
illusions to fulfill
our own delusions of grandeur.

OUR TALES IN TIME

Time turns;
living, loving,
leaving, moving,
unpacking belongings
from battered boxes
neath a new roof
my thoughts will soon
echo through,
the faithful and familiar
find prized places
in new positions.
All that has changed
is the clock I hang
on a new hook
in this new home.

For time, like life,
never stays put;
with every tick
it tells the tale
of where we’ve been
and what’s yet to unfold.
