Last week I was in Shanghai for work and met jet lag straight on, here are some of the pictures from that week, including 6am walks through the city while it was waking and I was searching for sleep…

CHINA IN PICTURES; SHANGHAI STORIES

  1. So interesting, and there are so many juxtapositions of different things–ancient and modern, Asian and European, artificial and natural.
I do love the clouds at the beginning though, too.

    • The clouds were awesome in their massiveness! Juxtaposition is the perfect description for Shanghai. You have the feeling the entire city is being turned into the answer to western desires when I think westerners want to escape and see eastern influences which unfortunately have been built over! Another parking lot over paradise!

  2. Thank you, Dami, for sharing those Shanghai stories with us. I very much enjoyed the tour!
I imagine that jet lag walks like those you mentioned actually can help to take in all those new and very different impressions during the relative calm of early morning… But I doubt that personally I would have managed to successfully combine this with work… 😉 Cudos that you did!
    Much love,
    Steffi

  3. Really awesome pics. Thank you for sharing. Glad you had some time to find these places as well enjoy some fine food in some beautiful places. Whole city looks spotless, well organized. Thanks, too, for the poem. Well done. Looks as though I should wait till I have some more money saved up before I take on Shanghai.

  4. As someone who lives in China (Suzhou, one big city west of Shanghai), you’ve done a really wonderful job of capturing the feel of Shanghai and this region of China. Great photos!

    • Thank you Craig, It’s really nice to get approval from the inside. I tried my best to fill every free hour watching life pass by. Thanks for dropping by.

  5. Thanks for bring beautiful picture of Shanghai… they are very true (:. I love Shanghai more than anywhere else as it’s my hometown. BTW you must be saying in a very good hotel to give you a mask in velvet pouch….

    • Glad you liked the pictures! Especially as it’s your city so that’s real approval! I think some hotel like to make the foreigners feel more relaxed by adding the velvet pouch- it’s not my first emergency mask in China that was wrapped so well! Best wishes damien
