CITE

A city
in shadow,
a choice;
to stay
or leave,
to be the inquisitor
or the commuter,
to be constant
in the light
or to comprehend
the darkness, far from it,
to break down the barrier
between all there is to see
and all there is left of us to fear.

SHROUDED IN HOPE

Even
when shadows
settle over me
as shroud,
beside me
rests a light;
a faith
in what might
still be allowed.

MOVING INTO MÉNILMONTANT

A new place to call home… painting new tales onto old walls in Ménilmontant, Paris…

Before…

Yes, I do make cutouts of furniture from paper to see what will fit where (I am a patternmaker, afterall!!)

The Magic Team Stories Movers (hijacked friends)…

A light at the top…

Those now famed 5 flights up- no lift…

And finally, furnished and familiar…

A little home baking to make it truly home (Apricot and pistachio cake)

A place to write new tales…

LITHE LIGHT

Worries
wash away
on the water,
watch them whisper,
whimper and wither
on the waves,
on summer nights
under fading lights.

Watch worries wash away
leaving lithe light to linger,
to illuminate a longing
for all that is yet to come.

LONG DAYS

Beauty bays
in the back gardens
of concrete
we’ve created,
simplicity shouting
from the shadows
of cites under siege,
precious petals
pulsing with potential,
lines of light longing
add contrast to contour,
like age adds interest.

Long days, lonely,
waiting to be witnessed
by more than just
the falling rain…

We all are beauty,
bending to the light,
bursting to be seen.

GATHER GOODNESS

Gather giggles
in golden garlands,

guard glee as a gift,

grow grace
in the guts of gaiety,

gather goodness before its gone.

BY THE PARTING

Being young
we bent by bench
and placed our kisses
on love,

growing old
I lost the strength to follow,
so you left me
by the parting of the trees,
shaded in loss.

LIGHT, LIGHT, NO LIGHT

Day 24: National Poetry Writing Month #NaPoWriMo

Hot flames
burn beneath
the breath of
whiskey’s heat,
dry and stale,
the eyes
like coal
never burn out;
never burnt enough,
trapped by heat,
suffocating heat,
slowly smoking
more smoke,
cigarettes,
lighter,
light, no light
in the darkness,
find the match,
burn it,
break it,
matches break,
all that is matched breaks
snaps like thin sticks,
fragile like brittle bones,
they all burn out
or break
but linger in the air
like whiskey
on the breath,
dry, stale…

THE LIGHT THAT SHIFTS THE SHADOW

Day 6: National Poetry Writing Month #NaPoWriMo

Trains used to slip
through these tracks
where runners now train,
old locomotives now relocated
like the light that displaces
the shadow,
but the lines
still linger,
less steam now,
more sweat
and sometimes
that light
that shifts
the shadow,
trains used to slip
through these tracks
that the city now tickles,
threatens with timeshares
to tear up what time still shares
in the corners where that shadow
leans into the light, on the lines where life
once rattled and raced,
before the new towers
knocked the old homes,
before the runners
and the walkways
and the boarders
and the builders
and the cranes
now shifting
into sight,
rising, in the distance,
just a step
beyond
that
light.

GOING EAST

I have crossed oceans
without feeling the weight
washed beneath their waves…

I have cut through clouds
without knowing the worries
they whisper to the stars…

I have flown

from darkening dreams
towards tomorrow’s daylight

and yet
the light’s already fading
on front of me

before my past
has even slept

before my future

somewhere far behind me

has even been conceived…
